When shoe manufacturing moved to southern Europe in the 1960s, Intermedium founder Henry Portis decided to look further afield. His attention was drawn to Japan, at the time a low-wage country. Since then, the Far East has undergone tremendous development and Intermedium was at the forefront of this development. We now have experience manufacturing shoes in countries like China, Vietnam, India, Pakistan, Korea, Thailand and ten other countries in Asia. We have learned a lot in the Far East, particularly that genuine relationships there develop and strengthen over time and also that long-term relationships are based on mutual trust and respect. As a result, our suppliers have become our partners. And we like to build the same type of relationship with our clients.
Partner
How does a partnership with Intermedium work? It's very simple. For a fee - as part of our sales price - we take care of the design, the samples, the production, the checks and the labelling. This fee is almost always lower than the reduction that we can negotiate on the basis of our purchasing volume.
If we are able to use our extensive experience to negotiate even better prices, then this will be reflected in lower prices for our clients. So is that all? No, not as far as we are concerned. We want to be a partner, so we will continue to be available.
Creativity
Every season we analyse all the global trends related to fashion and shoes. Then our stylists in the Netherlands, Italy, Germany, United Kingdom and the Far East put together a basic collection. If required, we can take models from that collection and develop them in more detail to completely match a client's range, both up-to-date and exclusive.
For example, we develop shoes or collections for the brand name clothing sector that are a perfect match for their clothing line and brand experience. We develop those both for Private labels as for our own brands. We believe that creativity is more than just design. That is why we increasingly present ourselves as a party that considers alternative distribution and sales channels, a party that sets up special projects off the beaten path.
People
Partnership, reliability and creativity - these are the qualities that we are proud of. Intermedium's employees do everything possible to live up to these qualities. This is true for the designers and merchandisers, the commercial office staff in our head office at Schiphol Airport, our sales team, our logistics department or the service offices in the Far East.
